The Halo Is The Latest Offering From Roto Grip In Their High Performance Hp4 Line. This Ball Uses A New Asymmetrical Weight Block Called Centrum That Is Paired Up With The Same Microtrax-S18 Solid Reactive Coverstock From The Idol. This Ball Adds More Flip And Back End Motion Compared To The Idol, As Well As More Traction Than The Hyper Cell Fused. The Halo’s Dull 2000 Grit Box Finish Allows It To Hook With Minimal Effort For All Styles Of Bowlers.
The Effortless Hook Of The Halo Made Our Heavy Oil Pattern Look Pretty Easy, As All Three Of Our Testers Had An Immense Amount Of Traction. They Could Start Farther Left On The Lane Than With Their No Rules And No Rules Existbecause Of The Added Motion At The End Of The Lane That The Halo Provided. Even Though It Creates A Lot Of Traction In The Oil, This Ball Didn’t Burn Up Early For Any Of Our Testers, And It Allowed Them All To See Lots Of Continuation All The Way Through The Pin Deck. As The Pattern Started To Transition, They Found Themselves Needing To Move Left Every Three Or Four Shots To Keep Their Halos In The Oil Long Enough To Stay In The Pocket. As They Continued To Chase The Oil Left, They Were Waiting For Their Balls To Start Hitting Flat So They Could Shell-Down Into The Winner, But The Halo Just Kept Striking. On The Fresh, Everyone Lined Up Off Their Line To The Pocket With The Idol. From These Lines, Stroker Left A 4 Pin, While Tweener And Cranker Both Left Splits Through The Middle Of The Rack. After The Oil Transitioned, They Tried This Comparison Again To See The Differences On The Burn With The Box Finish. Stroker And Tweener Both Went Light And Left 7 Pins With Their Idols, While Cranker Left A Flat 10. We Were Able To Keep Our Halos At Their Box Finish On This Longer Oil Pattern, While Moving Our Feet And Targets Left To Stay In The Pocket As The Pattern Dried Out.
Stroker Was The Only Tester To Really Like The Halo At Its Box Finish On Our Medium Oil Pattern. His Lower Rev Rate Allowed Him To Keep This Ball Right Of The Headpin By Playing A Small Swing Shot Between The Second And Third Arrows. As Long As He Didn’t Get His Ball Going Too Far Right Too Early, He Saw Enough Continuation To Strike, And He Even Saw Enough Angle Downlane To Get A Few Messengers Across The Deck. Tweener And Cranker Had To Really Increase Their Ball Speeds To Stay Around The Pocket. Cranker Was Lofting The Left Gutter With His Halo At Its Box Finish After Only About A Game Of Bowling On This Pattern. They Both Added Storm Step 2 Compound To Their Covers To Get More Length And To Cut Down On The Total Hook They Saw On This Pattern. This Surface Change Helped Them Get Closer To The Center Of The Lane, While Also Improving Their Reactions Once The Pattern Started To Break Down.
Stroker Loved The Halo On Our Sport Pattern. He Felt Like He Could Miss All The Way To The Gutter With The Dull Box Finish And Still Get His Ball Back To The Pocket. His Game Matches Up With Going Straighter Up The Lane, So When He Can Miss Right On This Flatter Condition And Still Get His Ball Back The Headpin, His Eyes Start To Light Up. The Halo’s Strong Cover Forced The Other Two Testers Farther Left With Their Feet, Putting Them More In The Center Of The Lane And Taking Away Some Of The Hold Stroker Was Seeing On The Fresh. Tweener Could Combat This With His Higher Ball Speed, But Cranker’s Angles Had To Get Pretty Steep In The Front. Neither Of Them Saw Any Out-Of-Bounds When They Got Their Balls Outside, But They Also Didn’t Have Much Hold In The Center Of The Lane Until It Started To Develop Later In The Session. In An Attempt To Match What Stroker Had On The Fresh, Tweener And Cranker Both Used A 4000 Abralon Pad On Their Halos To Get A Little More Length While Still Maintaining Traction In The Oil.

Torque
7.5
The Halo Is Pretty Sharp Off The Breakpoint For Such A Rough-Finished Bowling Ball. Its Strong Asymmetrical Core Helps It To Flip Over Hard When The Cover Sees Friction.
Length
11
The 2000 Grit Finish On The Halo Helps It To Create Traction Through Heavy Oil Patterns. Bowlers Who See Too Much Traction Can Raise The Finish To 4000 Grit, Or Use Polish And Compound To Increase The Length.
Back End
17.5
Even With Its Rough Cover, The Halo Manages To Offer Big Recovery At The End Of The Lane. We Could Continue To Move Left With Our Feet And The Halo Kept Making The Corner.
Total Hook
62
The Halo Tops The Chart In Total Hook For Roto Grip. Added Hook In The Oil And More Angle And Back End Compared To The No Rules And No Rules Exist Equate To More Total Motion.
Strengths
The Halo Offers Lots Of Total Hook And A Strong Change Of Direction Off The Dry. Its Large Amount Of Total Hook Helps Bowlers Combat Slick Oil Patterns.
Weaknesses
The Halo's Strong, Dull Cover Needs Some Oil In The Front Of The Lane To Have Enough Length. We Had To Change The Surface Finish On Our Halos Once Our Medium Pattern Saw About A Game Of Use.
Overall Summary
This Ball Reminded Our Testers Of The Original Defiant, But With More Total Hook. Bowlers Who Are Looking For A Ball With Big Total Hook Through The Oil And A Strong Downlane Motion Will Find It With The Halo.
